Why You Actually Need a Coach
Let’s talk honestly about something I hear often: “Why would I need a coach when I can read a book or listen to a podcast?” And trust me - I love those tools. We’re incredibly lucky to have so much information available to us as business owners.
But here’s the difference:
Learning something is not the same as integrating it.
Books and podcasts spark ideas, but they rarely lead to real transformation on their own. Most people don’t read a chapter and suddenly shift the way they lead their team, manage conflict, or navigate the complexity of a multi-generational family business. That level of change comes from support, accountability, and guided application.
That’s the power of coaching - especially family business coaching.
A coach helps you take insights and turn them into sustainable habits, better leadership decisions, and real progress inside your business.
That’s what I do with my clients: walk beside you, help you see what you can’t see alone, and support you as you build change that lasts.
Why Coaching Can Feel “Sticky” for Family Business Owners
If you’re in a family business, the idea of hiring a coach can feel complicated. And there are some very real reasons for that.
1. We’re taught to figure things out ourselves.
Most family businesses were built by generations of people who learned by doing - people who worked hard, trusted themselves, and made the business viable through resilience and resourcefulness. It’s normal to feel like you should be able to do the same.
2. Seeking outside support can feel like betrayal.
This is one of the biggest emotional blocks for family business owners. If something feels hard or isn’t working, asking for help outside the family can bring up guilt, like you’re stepping away from the people who raised you or questioning the way things have always been done.
But I want to make this very clear:
Asking for help does not diminish your family’s legacy. It strengthens your ability to continue it.
You can deeply appreciate the generations before you and still need professional support. Both can be true. Inviting someone in - especially someone who understands the dynamics of family business - is an act of responsibility, not rebellion.
That’s where I come in.
Why I’m Different as a Family Business Coach
I’m not your typical business coach. I’m a sixth-generation family business owner actively running my own company. I’ve lived the pressure, the responsibility, the emotional complexity, and the desire to honor legacy while leading authentically.
More than a decade ago, when I took over our family business, I reached a point where I knew I needed support stepping into my full leadership potential. I searched everywhere for someone who understood:
The dynamics of working shoulder-to-shoulder with family
The demands of managing staff inside a family-owned environment
The responsibility of carrying forward a multi-generational legacy
The challenges of running a business across multiple industries
The emotional weight of leadership in a family company
But the coaches I found mostly served solopreneurs - people without staff, without legacy dynamics, without the depth and complexity that come with family business.
So I pieced together what I needed. I learned from many disciplines. I adapted tools and strategies to fit the realities of a family-owned company. And in the process, I became the family business coach I wish I’d had years ago.
Today, I help other family business owners step into aligned, confident leadership without sacrificing their values, relationships, or well-being.
